وَقَالَ أَبُو يَعْلَى : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ ابْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ الْمُقَدَّمِيُّ ، ثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ الْحَنَفِيُّ ، ثَنَا عَبْدُ الْحَمِيدِ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، عَنْ سَعِيدٍ الْمَقْبُرِيِّ ، عَنْ أَبِي الْحُوَيْرِثِ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ الْحَكَمَ بْنَ مِنْهَالٍ ، يَقُولُ : إِنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لِعُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ : " اجْمَعْ لِي مَنْ هُنَا مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ ... الْحَدِيثَ .
It is narrated from al-Hakam bin Minhal (may Allah have mercy on him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him): "Gather for me all the people of Quraysh who are present here." (The narrator mentioned the rest of the hadith in the same way.)
Imam Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili recorded this hadith in his Musnad; in its chain, Abd al-Hamid bin Ja'far is saduq (truthful), but his memory has been criticised; there are also technical discussions among the hadith scholars regarding Abu al-Huwayrith and al-Hakam bin Minhal; however, the basis of this incident is found in other reliable narrations.
