It is narrated from Sayyiduna Hujayr bin Bayan (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There is no relative who goes to a (wealthy) relative of his and asks him for something of the surplus wealth that Allah Almighty has given him, and that person (despite having the wealth) is miserly towards him, except that on the Day of Resurrection an extremely venomous and furious serpent will be brought out for him, its mouth open and its tongue darting, until it encircles him and becomes a collar around his neck." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) recited this blessed verse: "And let not those who are miserly with what Allah has given them of His bounty think that it is good for them. Rather, it is bad for them. Their necks will be encircled by what they withheld on the Day of Resurrection" [Surah Al Imran: 180].
