( وَقَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ ) : حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْمُفَضَّلِ ، ثَنَا أَسْبَاطٌ ، عَنِ السُّدِّيِّ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ خَيْرٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ : مَا كُنْتُ أَرَى أَنَّ أَحَدًا مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُرِيدُ الدُّنْيَا حَتَّى نَزَلَ : مِنْكُمْ مَنْ يُرِيدُ الدُّنْيَا وَمِنْكُمْ مَنْ يُرِيدُ الآخِرَةَ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: "I did not even suppose that among the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) there could be anyone who intended and sought this world, until this glorious statement of Allah, the Blessed and Exalted, was revealed: 'Among you are some who desire this world, and among you are some who desire the Hereafter' [Surah Al Imran: 152]."
Imam Abu Bakr bin Abi Shaybah narrated this report with his chain, and all its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
