وَقَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ : حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُوسَى ، عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ عُبَيْدَةَ ، عَنْ أَخِيهِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُبَيْدَةَ ، عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ السَّاعِدِيِّ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ : خَرَجَ عَلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَنَحْنُ نَقْتَرِئُ الْقُرْآنَ يُقْرِئُ بَعْضُنَا بَعْضًا ، فَقَالَ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " الْحَمْدُ لِلهِ كِتَابُ اللهِ وَاحِدٌ ، فِيكُمُ الْأَخْيَارُ ، وَالْأَحْمَرُ وَالْأَسْوَدُ ، اقْرَؤُوا الْقُرْآنَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَأْتِيَ قَوْمٌ يَقْرَؤُونَهُ يُقِيمُونَ حُرُوفَ الْقُرْآنِ كَمَا يُقَامُ السَّهْمُ لَا يَتَجَاوَزُ تَرَاقِيَهُمْ ، يَتَعَجَّلُونَ ثَوَابَهُ وَلَا يَتَأَجَّلُونَهُ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa'd al-Sa'idi (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came out to us while we were reciting the Noble Qur'an and teaching one another to recite it, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Al-hamdu lillah (All praise belongs to Allah). The Book of Allah is one, and among you are the best of the Ummah, as well as the red and the black, that is, people of every colour and race. Keep reciting the Qur'an before there comes a people who will straighten the letters of the Qur'an with extreme affectation, just as an arrow is straightened, yet it will not go down past their throats; they will hasten to obtain worldly gain and payment for its recitation and will not seek its reward in the Hereafter."
