It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that it was the blessed practice of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that when a strong gale or wind blew, he (peace and blessings be upon him) would turn to face it and kneel down on his knees, then supplicate with this du'a: 'Allahumma ij'alha riyahan wa la taj'alha rihan, Allahumma ij'alha rahmatan wa la taj'alha 'adhaban' (O Allah, make it (this wind) abundant beneficial winds and do not make it a single (destructive) wind; O Allah, make it a means of mercy and do not make it a cause of punishment).
Imam Abu Ya'la also narrated something similar from Wahb, from Khalid.
