It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), advising us, said: "Do not make me like the rider's cup (which he keeps with him merely as a secondary item for his own need). For when the rider hangs his baggage on his mount, he takes his cup and fills it with water; then if he needs to make ablution, he makes ablution, and if he needs to drink, he drinks; otherwise he pours out whatever is in it. (Never do that; rather,) remember me at the beginning of your supplication, in the middle of the supplication and at the end of the supplication (with remembrance and blessings)."
Imam al-Bayhaqi recorded this hadith in 'Shu'ab al-Iman'; however, due to the weakness of Musa bin Ubaydah al-Rabadhi in its chain, its standing is weak according to the hadith scholars.
