وَقَالَ مُسَدَّدٌ : حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ ، ثَنَا أَبُو سِنَانٍ ضِرَارُ بْنُ مُرَّةَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي الْهُذَيْلِ ، عَنْ شَيْخٍ مِنَ النَّخَعِ قَالَ : دَخَلْتُ مَسْجِدَ إِيلْيَا فَصَلَّيْتُ إِلَى سَارِيَةٍ رَكْعَتَيْنِ ، فَجَاءَ رَجُلٌ فَصَلَّى قَرِيبًا ، فَمَالَ إِلَيْهِ النَّاسُ ، فَإِذَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْعَاصِ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا ، فَجَاءَ رَسُولُ يَزِيدَ بْنِ مُعَاوِيَةَ أَنْ أَجِبْ ، فَقَالَ : إِنَّ هَذَا يُرِيدُ أَنْ يَنْهَانِي أَنْ أُحَدِّثَ كَمَا كَانَ أَبُوهُ يَنْهَانِي ، وَإِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ فَذَكَرَ حَدِيثًا .
It is narrated from an elder of the tribe of Nakha' that he said: I entered the mosque of Jerusalem (the mosque of Iliya) and prayed two rak'ahs facing a pillar. Meanwhile a man came and prayed nearby, and people were drawn toward him. When I looked, it was Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with them both). Then the messenger of Yazid bin Mu'awiyah came with the message: "Answer his (Yazid's) summons." He said: "This man wants to stop me from narrating hadith just as his father used to forbid me, whereas I myself heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saying" and then he narrated a hadith.
