وَقَالَ الْحَارِثُ : حَدَّثَنَا دَاوُدُ بْنُ الْمُحَبَّرِ ، ثَنَا مَيْسَرَةُ بْنُ عَبْدِ رَبِّهِ ، عَنْ أَبِي عَائِشَةَ السَّعْدِيِّ ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ عُمَرَ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، وَابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمْ قَالَا : خَطَبَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَذَكَرَ حَدِيثًا وَفِيهِ : وَمَنْ تَعَلَّمَ الْعِلْمَ ، وَتَوَاضَعَ فِي الْعِلْمِ ، وَعَلَّمَهُ عِبَادَ اللهِ تَعَالَى يُرِيدُ بِذَلِكَ مَا عِنْدَ اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ لَمْ يَكُنْ فِي الْجَنَّةِ أَفْضَلُ ثَوَابًا وَلَا أَعْظَمُ مَنْزِلَةً مِنْهُ ، وَلَمْ يَكُنْ فِي الْجَنَّةِ مَنْزِلَةٌ وَلَا دَرَجَةٌ رَفِيعَةٌ نَفِيسَةٌ إِلَّا وَلَهُ فِيهَا أَوْفَرُ نَصِيبٍ وَأَوْفَرُ الْمَنَازِلِ ، أَلَا وَإِنَّ الْعِلْمَ أَفْضَلُ الْعِبَادَةِ وَمِلَاكَ الدِّينِ الْوَرَعُ ، وَإِنَّمَا الْعَالِمُ مَنْ عَمِلَ بِعِلْمِهِ ، وَإِنْ كَانَ قَلِيلَ الْعِلْمِ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah and Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) delivered a sermon to us in which he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever acquires knowledge, adopts humility and modesty for the sake of knowledge, and teaches it to the servants of Allah Almighty solely for the pleasure of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, and the reward that is with Him, there will be no one in Paradise with a better reward than him or a higher rank than him. There will be no station in Paradise, nor any lofty and precious rank, in which he does not have the most abundant share and the best dwelling. Remember! Seeking knowledge is surely the most excellent act of worship, and the very foundation of the religion rests on scrupulousness and piety. In truth, the scholar is only the one who acts upon his knowledge, even if his knowledge is little."
This report is mawdu' (fabricated); its chain contains liars and matruk (abandoned) narrators such as Maysarah bin Abd Rabbih and Dawud bin al-Muhabbar. Al-Busiri recorded it in 'Ithaf al-Khiyarah al-Maharah'.
