Al-Matalib al-'Aliyah 3069 — Urging the spreading of knowledge

It is narrated from the father of Abu Kathir that he said: I came to Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) while he was at the middle Jamrah, and a crowd of people had gathered around him to ask about religious rulings. Meanwhile a man came and stood over him and said: "Did the Commander of the Believers not forbid you from giving fatwas?" He relates that Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) raised his head toward him and said: "Have you been appointed as a watchman and guard over me? Even if you were to place on this" and he pointed to the nape of his neck "the sharpest sword, and I were certain that I could convey to others a word I heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) before you (kill me and) finish with me, I would surely convey it."
This hadith is sahih (authentic), and Imam al-Bukhari (may Allah have mercy on him) cited a part of it in mu'allaq form in the Book of Knowledge.
