It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: I have a hypocrite neighbour who does such-and-such (improper) things. He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him: "Does he say 'La ilaha illallah' (there is no god worthy of worship except Allah)?" He said: Yes. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I have been forbidden from killing such people who profess the testimony of faith."
Takhrij: Abu Ya'la narrated this hadith in his Musnad (1782), and all its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
