It is narrated from Abu Mijlaz (may Allah have mercy on him) that a man came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: I saw in a dream that the top part of my head was cut off, and I myself was looking at it (my severed head). The narrator states that on hearing this the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) smiled and then asked: "When your head had been cut off, with which eye were you looking at it?" The narrator said: Only a short time after this incident the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away, so the people of knowledge interpreted the cutting off of that man's head as the death of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and his looking at it as following and adhering to his (peace and blessings be upon him) Sunnahs.
