It is narrated from al-Hasan al-Basri (may Allah have mercy on him) and Sayyiduna Abu al-Tufayl (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Tonight I was drawing water (in a dream) when suddenly some black sheep and some sheep of a whitish-brown colour came to me. Then Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) came forward and drew one or two buckets, but there was some weakness in his drawing; may Allah Almighty forgive him. Then Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) came, and the bucket turned into a very large bucket. He (drew water with it and) filled all the troughs and gave water to everyone who came, and I have not seen among people any genius and person of excellence like Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), who drew water with such skill and strength as he did. I interpreted this dream to mean that the black sheep are the Arabs and the whitish-brown sheep are the non-Arabs."
In the narration of al-Bazzar it is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu al-Tufayl (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I saw in my sleep black sheep followed by whitish-brown sheep, and I interpreted the black sheep as the Arabs and the whitish-brown sheep as the non-Arabs."
