It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: "I left the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to go to my family, and I passed by some boys who were playing. Their game pleased me, so I stood by those boys. Meanwhile the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) reached me, stopped by them and greeted the boys with salam. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) sent me on some errand of his. So I reached my mother after the time at which I usually returned, and my mother asked: O my dear son! What kept you today? I said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent me on an errand of his. She asked: What errand was it? I replied: O mother! It is a secret.
My mother advised me, saying: O my son! Then guard well the secret of the Prophet of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and do not disclose it to anyone." The narrator of the hadith, Thabit al-Bunani (may Allah have mercy on him), says: I said to Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him): O Abu Hamzah! Do you still remember that matter today? He said: "Indeed I keep it guarded (in my breast), and O Thabit, if I were to tell that matter to anyone, I would certainly have told you."
Imam Ibn Abi Umar (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated through an elder from Kufah that he said: I went with Thabit to Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him), and I heard him saying to Thabit: "I hold a secret of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him); if I were to inform anyone among the people of it, I would certainly have informed you."
