It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The middle part of the road is not for women (to walk in)," that is, he (peace and blessings be upon him) meant the centre and middle part of the road.
Imam Abu Ya'la recorded this hadith in his Musnad. Its chain contains Abdullah bin Sa'id bin Abi Sa'id al-Maqburi, who is a da'if (weak) narrator; however, other authentic reports support the meaning that women should avoid walking in the middle of the road.
