وَقَالَ عَبْدٌ : حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ الْحَكَمِ بْنِ أَبَانَ ، ثَنَا أَبِي ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ : رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَشْرَبُ يَوْمًا فَشَرِبَ فِي ثَلَاثَةِ أَنْفَاسٍ ، فَقُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ شَرِبْتَ الْمَاءَ فِي ثَلَاثَةِ أَنْفَاسٍ ؟ فَقَالَ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : نَعَمْ ، هُوَ أَشْفَى وَأَمْرَأُ وَأَبْرَأُ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he said: One day I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) drinking something, and he drank it in three breaths. So I said: "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Did you drink the water in three breaths?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes; this way is more healing, more wholesome (quenching the thirst well) and more protective against illness."
Takhrij: Abd bin Humayd recorded it in his Musnad (no. 2433); its chain contains the narrator Ibrahim bin al-Hakam bin Aban, who is weak.
