It is narrated from the father of Mudrik bin Umarah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) on the day of the Conquest of Makkah to give him the pledge of allegiance, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw that his hand had khaluq (saffron or some perfume) on it, so he (peace and blessings be upon him) held back his hand from placing it on his (for the pledge). A man said to him: "May your mother be bereaved of you! The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) held back his hand from you only because there is khaluq on your hand." Hearing this, he washed his hand, then came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) again and gave him (peace and blessings be upon him) the pledge of allegiance.
Ibn Abi Shaybah narrated this hadith from Ibn Numayr, from Hurayth, from Mudrik bin Umarah, from his father. And al-Harith said: Zakariyya bin Adi narrated this hadith to us, from Ibn Numayr, with the same (above-mentioned) chain.
