It is narrated from Sayyiduna Buraydah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) set out on a military expedition and appointed Sayyiduna Khalid bin al-Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) as commander of his vanguard. During this, he (peace and blessings be upon him) saw a slain woman and asked: "Who killed her?" The people said that Sayyiduna Khalid bin al-Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) had killed her. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to a man: "Go and catch up with Sayyiduna Khalid bin al-Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) and tell him that he must never kill a woman, a child or an 'asif." And 'asif means "a labourer working for wages".
