It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that on the day of Khaybar the people were hasty in killing children, at which the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) became angry and said: "I forbade you from killing children and the elderly." A man said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! May my father and mother be ransomed for you, what harm is there for us in killing the children of the polytheists? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "And what do you know of what they would have done (when they grew up)?"
