It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that a monk was brought to him, and it was said to him: "This man insults the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)." He (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Had I heard him (saying these words myself), I would certainly have killed him, for we did not give them refuge and the covenant of protection (dhimmah) so that they could revile our Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)." Imam al-Harith also narrated something similar through his own chain, that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) passed by a monk. Through its first chain this report is munqati' (broken), because of the presence of an unnamed narrator.
