It is narrated from Uqbah bin Suhban that Amr bin Ma'dikarib inflicted a ma'mumah (a deep head wound that reaches the membrane of the brain) on a man of the tribe of Banu Kinanah. Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) intended to take retaliation (equal requital) from him, whereupon Sayyiduna al-Abbas bin Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "There is no retaliation for a ma'mumah (a wound reaching the membrane of the brain)."
This chain is da'if (weak) and contains a break (inqita', the chain being broken). However, Imam Ibn Majah recorded the marfu' part of this report, and Imam Abu Ya'la also narrated it with his own chain.
