It is narrated from Sayyiduna Wabisah bin Ma'bad (may Allah be pleased with him) that on the day of Eid al-Adha or Eid al-Fitr he would stand before the people to address them and say: I was present with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on the occasion of the Farewell Hajj when he (peace and blessings be upon him) was asking the people: "What day is this?" The people said: It is the day of sacrifice. He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "What month is this?" They said: It is a sacred month. He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "What city is this?" They said: It is the (sacred) city of Makkah. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, your blood, your wealth and your honour are sacred and inviolable to one another, just as is the sanctity of this day of yours, in this month of yours and in this city of yours, until the time when you meet your Lord. 'Allahumma hal ballaghtu?' (O Allah, have I conveyed the message?) So let the one who is present here convey it to the one who is not present."
Sayyiduna Wabisah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: So we bear witness to you just as we were made witnesses (by the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)). In another similar narration it is mentioned that Salim bin Wabisah led the people in prayer at al-Raqqah and, mentioning this same hadith of his father, said that Sayyiduna Wabisah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I bear witness to you just as we were made witnesses; when you are absent from here, we will be the ones conveying this message to you.
