It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that a woman of the tribe of Khath'am came into the noble presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah, I am a woman who has no husband; so tell me, what is the husband's right over his wife? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is the husband's right over his wife that if he asks for her (for intimacy) while she is (riding) on the back of a camel, she should not refuse him; and it is the husband's right over his wife that she should not observe a voluntary fast without his permission, and if she does so, she will merely remain hungry and thirsty and (in terms of reward) her fast will not be accepted.
And it is the husband's right over his wife that she should not give anything from his house (to anyone) without his permission, and if she does so, its reward will go to others (the husband and so on) and its burden will be upon her. And it is the husband's right over his wife that she should not go out of his house without his permission, and if she does so, the angels of the heavens, the angels of mercy and the angels of punishment will keep cursing her until she returns (home) or repents."
Besides Imam Musaddad, Imam Abu Ya'la and Imam al-Bazzar have also narrated this report, and Imam al-Bazzar added at the end of his report that (on hearing the importance of these rights) the woman said: I will never marry.
