وَقَالَ أَبُو يَعْلَى : حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرٌ ، ثَنَا أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الْحَنَفِيُّ ، ثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ [عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ] بْنِ مَوْهَبٍ ، عَنْ مَالِكِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ عَمْرَةَ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهَا : وُجِدَ فِي قَائِمِ سَيْفِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كِتَابٌ فِيهِ : " الْمُؤْمِنُونَ تَكَافَأُ دِمَاؤُهُمْ ، يَسْعَى بِذِمَّتِهِمْ أَدْنَاهُمْ . لَا يُقْتَلُ مُسْلِمٌ بِكَافِرٍ ، وَلَا ذُو عَهْدٍ فِي عَهْدِهِ . وَلَا يَتَوَارَثُ أَهْلُ مِلَّتَيْنِ ".
It is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that "A writing was found in the hilt of the sword of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), in which was written: 'The blood of all Muslims is equal (in retaliation and blood money); even the lowest-ranking of them can undertake protection on behalf of all (by granting someone refuge); no Muslim shall be killed in exchange for a disbeliever, nor shall one under a covenant (dhimmi) be killed during the term of his covenant; and the followers of two different religions shall not inherit from one another.'"
