وَقَالَ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنِيعٍ : حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ ، عَنْ عَمْرٍو ، عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ قَالَ : إِنَّ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ أَبْصَرَ عَلَى عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا ثَوْبَيْنِ مَصْبُوغَيْنِ وَهُوَ مُحْرِمٌ ، فَقَالَ : مَا هَذَا ؟ فَقَالَ عَلِيٌّ : مَا أَخَالُ أَحَدًا يُعَلِّمُنَا السُّنَّةَ .
Imam Ahmad bin Mani' narrated with his chain from Abu Ja'far that Sayyiduna Umar al-Faruq (may Allah be pleased with him) saw Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Ja'far (may Allah be pleased with them both) wearing two dyed garments while in the state of ihram, and asked (by way of inquiry): "What is this?" At that Sayyiduna Ali al-Murtada (may Allah be pleased with him) replied (in his defence): "I do not think that anyone will teach us the Sunnah (that is, we know the Sunnah of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and act upon it)."
