Al-Matalib al-'Aliyah 1148 — Providing a mount for Hajj counts

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Taliq (may Allah be pleased with him) that his wife said to him, at a time when he had a camel and a she-camel: "Give me your camel so that I may perform Hajj on it." He replied that it was dedicated to the path of Allah Almighty. His wife said: "My performing Hajj riding on it is also a good deed in the path of Allah." But he refused. Then she said: "Very well, give me your she-camel, and you perform Hajj on your camel yourself." He replied: "I do not prefer anyone over myself." She said again: "Then give me something from your provisions for the journey." He replied: "I have nothing beyond the expenses of my own journey; had I had it, I would certainly have given it to you." At this his wife said: "Very well, when you meet the Prophet of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), convey my greeting of salam (peace) to him, and tell him also what I have said to you." So when he came into the presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he conveyed his wife's greeting to him and narrated the whole matter. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Umm Taliq has spoken the truth. Had you given her your camel, it would have been in the path of Allah; and had you given her your she-camel, that too would have been counted in the path of Allah; and had you given her something from your expenses, Allah Almighty would have granted you a better replacement for it." I submitted: "O Prophet of Allah! What deed equals Hajj?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Performing Umrah in Ramadan."
This blessed hadith makes clear the great point that providing a wife with financial or travel assistance in performing the obligation of Hajj carries a reward equal to jihad in the path of Allah; and also that the blessing of Umrah in the blessed month of Ramadan has been declared equal to Hajj in reward.
