It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: "We used to wipe over leather socks, and we were commanded to do so." A man asked him: Did you hear it yourself from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)? He replied: "Do not be angry."
In the narration of Ahmad bin Mani', Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "We used to wipe over our leather socks." A man asked him: Did you hear this from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)? He replied: "No, but we heard it from those of our companions who cannot be suspected of anything; they would say: Wipe over the leather socks, and do such-and-such, except that he did not mention (those Companions') kunyas."
