Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Repentance from a sin is that when a man repents from it, he does not then commit that sin again."
Ahmad recorded it, and its chain is da'if (weak).

Sayyiduna Awf bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I know the repentance for every single sin. He was asked: What is its repentance? He said: That a man leaves it in such a way that he does not commit it (the sin) again.
Al-Tabarani recorded it with a hasan (good) chain.
