Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was sitting among some people when Sayyiduna Imam Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Imam Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) (who were children at the time) passed by. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Bring my two sons, so that I may recite over them the words of protection which Sayyiduna Ibrahim (peace be upon him) used to recite over his two sons, Sayyiduna Isma'il (peace be upon him) and Sayyiduna Ishaq (peace be upon him) (whose words are these):
'U'idhukuma bikalimatillah al-tammah min kulli shaytanin wa hammah, wa min kulli aynin lammah'
(I place you both under the protection of the perfect words of Allah Almighty from every devil and every venomous creature, and from every harmful (envious) eye.)"
Al-Bazzar recorded it, and its narrators have been declared trustworthy.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite:
'Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min al-shaytan, min hamzihi wa nafkhihi (ahsabuhu qala: wa nafthihi), wa min 'adhab al-qabr'
"O Allah, I seek refuge in You from Satan, from his 'hamz', from his 'nafkh' (the narrator says: I think the narration also contains these words:) and from his 'nafth', and from the punishment of the grave."
It was said: O Messenger of Allah, what is this thing from which you are seeking refuge? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: As for his 'hamz', it means the whispering he casts; his 'nafth' means poetry; and his 'nafkh' means his creating doubts. The narrator says: That is, the doubts he casts during prayer, so that he may break off the man's prayer (here the narrator is unsure about the wording). As for the punishment of the grave, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say about it: "Most of the punishment of the grave is because of urine."
Al-Bazzar recorded it. Its chain contains a narrator, Rishdin bin Kurayb, who is da'if (weak).
(Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: At the end of the Book of Adhkar, some chapters on seeking refuge have already passed, and this is their proper place.
