Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent me to my people so that I might invite them to Allah Almighty and convey to them the teachings of Islam. I came to them; they had brought in their camels, milked them and drunk the milk. When they saw me they said: Welcome to Sudayy bin Ajlan. They said: We have heard that you have abandoned your religion and gone over to that man. I said: No; rather, I have believed in Allah and His Messenger, and the Messenger of Allah has sent me to you so that I may present to you Islam and its teachings. The narrator says: While they were in this situation, a bowl containing blood was brought. They set it down, gathered around it and began to eat it. They said: O Sudayy, come and join us. I said: Woe to you! I have come to you from the one who has made this forbidden for you, except the animals you slaughter, as Allah Almighty has revealed to him. The people asked: What has Allah Almighty said? I said: This verse has been revealed:
"Forbidden to you are carrion, blood and the flesh of swine."
The verse continues up to: "and that you seek decisions by divining arrows."
The narrator says: Then I began inviting them to Islam, and they kept refusing. I said to them: Woe to you! Bring me a sip of water, for I am extremely thirsty. The narrator says: I was wearing a turban. They said: No; rather, we will leave you like this until you die of thirst. The narrator says: I tied my turban, laid my head on the turban and slept on the burning sand in intense heat. In my dream a person came to me holding a bowl made of glass; people could never have seen a more beautiful bowl than it. In it was a drink; people could never have seen a more delicious drink than it. He gave it to me and I drank it. When I finished drinking, I woke up. By Allah, after that I never felt thirsty, and after that drink I have not known thirst at all.
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it. Its chain contains Bashir bin Shurayh, who is da'if (weak).

Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent me to the tribe of Bahilah. I came to them while they were eating. They welcomed me, honoured me and said: Come forward and eat. I said: I have come to forbid you from this food, and I am the envoy of the Messenger of Allah; I have come to you so that you may believe in him. They rejected me and drove me away. I was hungry and thirsty, and severe hunger had distressed me. I slept, and in my dream a drink of milk was brought to me. I drank it, and my stomach became full. The people said: A man from among your nobles and prominent people came to you and you turned him away! Go to him and give him the food and drink that he wishes. So they brought me food and drink. I said: I have no need of your food and your drink, for Allah Almighty has fed me and given me drink. Look at this state that I am in. When they looked, they believed in me and in what I had brought from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).

In one narration the words are: I showed them my stomach, and all of them became Muslims.
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it with two chains. The first chain is hasan (good); its chain contains Abu Ghalib, who has, however, been declared trustworthy.
