Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: There was a man from the desert regions whose name was "Zahir." He used to give gifts to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and when he was about to return, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would give him provisions. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, Zahir is our man of the desert, and we are his townsfolk." The narrator says: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) loved him. He was a man of plain appearance. One day the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to him while he was selling his goods. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) embraced him from behind, and he could not see the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He said: "Let me go! Who is this?" When he turned and saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he began pressing his back against the chest of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), once he had recognised the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Who will buy this slave?" He said: "O Messenger of Allah! By Allah! You will find me of little value." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "But in the sight of Allah Almighty you are not of little value." (The narrator is in doubt; perhaps these are the words:) He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "But in the sight of Allah Almighty you are precious."
Ahmad, Abu Ya'la and al-Bazzar recorded it, and the narrators of Ahmad are the narrators of the Sahih.

Salim bin Abi al-Ja'd narrates about a man from the tribe of Ashja', whose name was Sayyiduna Azhar bin Haram al-Ashja'i (may Allah be pleased with him) and who was a man of the desert: He would always bring some gift to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw him in the market of Madinah selling his goods; before that he had not met the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) embraced him from behind. He turned around, saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and kissed the palm of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Who will buy this slave?" He said: "O Messenger of Allah! You will find me of little value." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "But in the sight of Allah Almighty you are profitable." The narrator says: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Every townsman has a man of the desert, and the man of the desert of the family of Muhammad is Zahir bin Haram."
Al-Bazzar and al-Tabarani recorded it, and its narrators have been declared trustworthy.
