Sayyiduna Talhah bin Ubaydullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Shall I not tell you something about the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)? I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Amr bin al-As is one of the righteous people of Quraysh, and what an excellent household these are: the father of Abdullah (that is, Sayyiduna Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with him)), the mother of Abdullah, and Abdullah." Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: One day I was with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in his house. He said: Do you know who is with us in the house? I said: Who is it, O Messenger of Allah? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: It is Jibril. I said: O Sayyiduna Jibril! Peace be upon you, and the mercy of Allah Almighty. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: He has returned your greeting.
Imam al-Tabarani recorded this report with two chains, and the chain of one of them is hasan (good).

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: If I do one good deed today, it is dearer to me than twice as much good done with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), because when we were with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), our attention was on the Hereafter and this world was not our aim, whereas today we have inclined towards this world.

Yahya bin Bukayr said: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with him), whose kunyah was "Abu Muhammad", passed away in Egypt and was buried in his house; this was in the year 65 AH. Some have said it was in 68 AH. At that time he was 72 years old; the narrator Yahya had a doubt: or perhaps he was 92 (that is, this doubt between 72 and 92 is the narrator Yahya's).
