عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ : لَمَّا آخَى النَّبِيُّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - بَيْنَ أَصْحَابِهِ مِنَ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ وَالْأَنْصَارِ ، فَلَمْ يُؤَاخِ بَيْنَ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ - رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ - وَبَيْنَ أَحَدٍ مِنْهُمْ ، خَرَجَ عَلِيٌّ مُغْضَبًا حَتَّى أَتَى جَدْوَلًا فَتَوَسَّدَ ذِرَاعَهُ ، فَسَفَّتْ عَلَيْهِ الرِّيحُ ، فَطَلَبَهُ النَّبِيُّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - حَتَّى وَجَدَهُ فَوَكَزَهُ بِرِجْلِهِ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ : " قُمْ فَمَا صَلَحْتَ أَنْ تَكُونَ إِلَّا أَبَا تُرَابٍ ، أَغَضِبْتَ عَلَيَّ حِينِ آخَيْتُ بَيْنَ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ وَالْأَنْصَارِ وَلَمْ أُؤَاخِ بَيْنَكَ وَبَيْنَ أَحَدٍ مِنْهُمْ ؟ ! أَمَا تَرْضَى أَنْ تَكُونَ مِنِّي بِمَنْزِلَةِ هَارُونَ مِنْ مُوسَى ؟ إِلَّا أَنَّهُ لَيْسَ بَعْدِي نَبِيٌّ . أَلَا مَنْ أَحَبَّكَ حُفَّ بِالْأَمْنِ وَالْإِيمَانِ ، وَمَنْ أَبْغَضَكَ أَمَاتَهُ اللَّهُ مِيتَةً جَاهِلِيَّةً ، وَحُوسِبَ بِعَمَلِهِ فِي الْإِسْلَامِ " .

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) established brotherhood between his Companions from the Muhajirun and the Ansar, he did not make Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) the brother of anyone. Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) went out in anger until he came to a stream, and there he lay down with his forearm as a pillow, and the wind covered him with dust. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came looking for him until he found him; he nudged him with his foot and said: "Get up! The only fitting (name) for you is Abu Turab (father of dust). Are you angry with me because, when I established brotherhood between the Muhajirun and the Ansar, I did not establish brotherhood between you and anyone? Are you not pleased to be to me as Sayyiduna Harun (peace be upon him) was to Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him), except that there will be no prophet after me? Whoever loves you will be filled with security and faith, and whoever hates you, Allah Almighty will cause him to die the death of the Jahiliyyah, and he will be held to account for the deeds he did in Islam."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Its chain contains Hamid bin Adam al-Marwazi, who is a kadhdhab (liar).

Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Written on the gate of Paradise is: There is no god but Allah; Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is the Messenger of Allah; Ali is the brother of the Messenger of Allah. (This was decreed) two thousand years before creation was created."

Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) established brotherhood between the people, and he established brotherhood between himself and Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him).

عَنْ شَرَاحِيلَ بْنِ مُرَّةَ قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - يَقُولُ لِعَلِيٍّ : " أَبْشِرْ يَا عَلِيُّ ; حَيَاتُكَ مَعِي ، وَمَوْتُكَ مَعِي " .

Sayyiduna Shurahbil bin Murrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say to Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him): "O Ali! Rejoice at the glad tidings that your life will be with me and your death will be with me (that is, you will remain with me even after death)."

وَعَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ : لَمَّا زَوَّجَ النَّبِيُّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - عَلِيًّا فَاطِمَةَ قَالَتْ فَاطِمَةُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، زَوَّجَتْنِي مِنْ رَجُلٍ فَقِيرٍ لَيْسَ لَهُ شَيْءٌ . فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " أَمَا تَرْضَيْنَ يَا فَاطِمَةُ أَنَّ اللَّهَ اخْتَارَ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ رَجُلَيْنِ ، أَحَدُهُمَا أَبَاكِ وَالْآخَرُ زَوْجَكِ " .

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) married Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) to Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her), Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "O Messenger of Allah! You have married me to a man who is poor and has nothing." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Fatimah! Are you not pleased that Allah Almighty chose two men from the people of Paradise, one of whom is your father and the other your husband?"
Al-Tabarani recorded it through Ibrahim bin al-Hajjaj from Abd al-Razzaq. Al-Dhahabi said: This Ibrahim is unknown. The rest of its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih. He also recorded it with another, da'if (weak) chain.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: Whenever Allah Almighty revealed "O you who believe", Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) was the leader and the most honoured of the believers. Allah Almighty reproached the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in more than one place, but He mentioned Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) only with good.

وَعَنْ جُمَيْعِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ : أَنَّ أُمَّهُ وَخَالَتَهُ دَخَلَتَا عَلَى عَائِشَةَ ، فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ إِلَى أَنْ قَالَ : قَالَتَا : فَأَخْبِرِينَا عَنْ عَلِيٍّ قَالَتْ : عَنْ أَيٍّ شَيْءٍ تَسْأَلَنَّ ؟ عَنْ رَجُلٍ وُضِعَ [ يَدَهُ ] مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - مَوْضِعًا ، فَسَالَتْ نَفْسُهُ فِي يَدِهِ فَمَسَحَ بِهَا وَجْهَهُ ؟ وَاخْتَلَفُوا فِي دَفْنِهِ ، فَقَالَ : إِنَّ أَحَبَّ الْبِقَاعِ إِلَى اللَّهِ مَكَانٌ قَبَضَ فِيهِ نَبِيَّهُ . قَالَتَا : فَلِمَ خَرَجْتِ عَلَيْهِ ؟ قَالَتْ : أَمْرٌ قُضِيَ ، وَوَدِدْتُ أَنْ أَفْدِيَهُ مَا عَلَى الْأَرْضِ مِنْ شَيْءٍ .

Jumay' bin Umayr narrates that his mother and his maternal aunt visited Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her). The narrator then mentioned the whole hadith, in which, further on, he reports these words: The two women said: "Tell us about Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him)." Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "In what respect are you asking? About a man who had placed his hand on the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in such a way that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away in his hands, and he wiped his face with that hand? The people differed about where to bury the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and that man said: The place most beloved to Allah is the place in which the soul of His Prophet was taken." The two women said: "Then why did you go out to fight against Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him)?" Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "It was a matter that had been decreed, and I wish I could give everything on the face of the earth as a ransom for it."
Abu Ya'la recorded it. Its chain contains a group of narrators about whom there is disagreement, and as for the mother of Jumay' and his maternal aunt, I do not know either of them.

عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ قَالَتْ : وَالَّذِي أَحْلِفُ بِهِ أَنْ كَانَ عَلِيٌّ لَأَقْرَبَ النَّاسِ عَهْدًا بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - . قَالَتْ : عُدْنَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - غَدَاةً بَعْدِ غَدَاةٍ يَقُولُ : " جَاءَ عَلِيٌّ ؟ " . مِرَارًا . قَالَتْ : وَأَظُنُّهُ كَانَ بَعَثَهُ فِي حَاجَةٍ . قَالَتْ : فَجَاءَ بَعْدُ ، فَظَنَنْتُ أَنَّ لَهُ إِلَيْهِ حَاجَّةً ، فَخَرَجْنَا مِنَ الْبَيْتِ ، فَقَعَدْنَا عِنْدَ الْبَيْتِ وَكُنْتُ مِنْ أَدْنَاهُمْ إِلَى الْبَابِ ، فَأَكَبَّ عَلَيْهِ عَلِيٌّ فَجَعَلَ يُسَارُّهُ وَيُنَاجِيهِ ، ثُمَّ قُبِضَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - مِنْ يَوْمِهِ ذَلِكَ ، وَكَانَ أَقْرَبَ النَّاسِ بِهِ عَهْدًا .
رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ وَأَبُو يَعْلَى إِلَّا أَنَّهُ قَالَ فِيهِ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - يَوْمَ قُبِضَ فِي بَيْتِ عَائِشَةَ . وَالطَّبَرَانِيُّ بِاخْتِصَارٍ ، وَرِجَالُهُمْ رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ غَيْرَ أُمِّ مُوسَى ، وَهِيَ ثِقَةٌ .
رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ وَأَبُو يَعْلَى إِلَّا أَنَّهُ قَالَ فِيهِ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - يَوْمَ قُبِضَ فِي بَيْتِ عَائِشَةَ . وَالطَّبَرَانِيُّ بِاخْتِصَارٍ ، وَرِجَالُهُمْ رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ غَيْرَ أُمِّ مُوسَى ، وَهِيَ ثِقَةٌ .
Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: By the One by whom I swear, Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) was the closest of people to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: Every day we would go to visit the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in his illness, and he said: "Has Ali come?" He asked this several times. Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) says: I gathered that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had sent him on some errand. Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: When he came afterwards, I gathered that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) perhaps had some particular matter with him, so we women went out of the house and sat outside the house (or outside the room), and among those women I was the closest to the door. I saw Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) bend over the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) spoke with him in a whisper. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away that same day, and Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) was the closest of people to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
Ahmad and Abu Ya'la recorded it, but he recorded these words in it: On the day the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away, he was in the house of Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her).
