بَابُ مَنَاقِبِ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ - رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ -

عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - يَقُولُ : " النَّاسُ مِنْ شَجَرٍ شَتَّى ، وَأَنَا وَعَلِيٌّ مِنْ شَجَرَةٍ وَاحِدَةٍ " .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْأَوْسَطِ ، وَفِيهِ مَنْ لَمْ أَعْرِفْهُ وَمَنِ اخْتُلِفَ فِيهِ .

Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "People belong to different trees, while Ali and I belong to one tree."

وَقَالَ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ : عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ بْنِ هَاشِمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ مَنَافِ بْنِ قُصَيِّ بْنِ كِلَابِ بْنِ مُرَّةَ بْنِ كَعْبِ بْنِ لُؤَيِّ بْنِ غَالِبِ بْنِ فِهْرِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، يُكَنَّى : أَبَا الْحَسَنِ ، شَهِدَ بَدْرًا .
Imam al-Tabarani narrates (the lineage of Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) is as follows): Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib bin Abd al-Muttalib bin Hashim bin Abd Manaf bin Qusayy bin Kilab bin Murrah bin Ka'b bin Lu'ayy bin Ghalib bin Fihr bin Malik. The kunyah of Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) is Abu al-Hasan, and he had the honour of taking part in the Battle of Badr.
قَالَ : وَحَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ : حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي قَالَ : بَلَّغَنِي بَنُو هَاشِمٍ : أَنَّ أَبَا طَالِبٍ اسْمُهُ : عَبْدُ مَنَافِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ ، وَعَبْدُ الْمُطَّلِبِ اسْمُهُ : شَيْبَةُ بْنُ هَاشِمٍ ، وَهَاشِمٌ اسْمُهُ : عَمْرُو بْنُ عَبْدِ مَنَافِ بْنِ قُصَيٍّ ، وَقُصَيٌّ اسْمُهُ : زَيْدٌ .
The son of Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal narrates: My father told me: Banu Hashim informed me that Abu Talib's name was Abd Manaf bin Abd al-Muttalib, Abd al-Muttalib's name was Shaybah bin Hashim, Hashim's name was Amr bin Abd Manaf bin Qusayy, and Qusayy's name was Zayd.
وَقَالَ الزُّبَيْرُ بْنُ بَكَّارٍ : أُمُّ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ : فَاطِمَةُ بِنْتُ أَسَدِ بْنِ هَاشِمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ مَنَافِ بْنِ قُصَيٍّ ، وَيُقَالُ : إِنَّهَا أَوَّلُ هَاشِمِيَّةٍ وَلَدَتْ لِهَاشِمِيٍّ ، وَقَدْ أَسْلَمَتْ وَهَاجَرَتْ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - بِالْمَدِينَةِ ، وَمَاتَتْ وَدَفَنَهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - وَأُمُّهَا : فَاطِمَةُ بِنْتُ هَرِمِ بْنِ رَوَاحَةَ بْنِ حُجْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ مَعِيصِ بْنِ عَامِرِ بْنِ لُؤَيٍّ .

Al-Zubayr bin Bakkar narrates: The mother of Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) was Sayyidah Fatimah bint Asad bin Hashim bin Abd Manaf bin Qusayy. It is said that she was the first Hashimi woman to give birth to a Hashimi child. This lady accepted Islam and emigrated to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in Madinah. When she passed away, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had her buried. Her mother's name was Fatimah bint Haram bin Rawahah bin Hujr bin Abd Ma'is bin Amir bin Lu'ayy.
