عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - يَقُولُ : " النَّاسُ مِنْ شَجَرٍ شَتَّى ، وَأَنَا وَعَلِيٌّ مِنْ شَجَرَةٍ وَاحِدَةٍ " .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْأَوْسَطِ ، وَفِيهِ مَنْ لَمْ أَعْرِفْهُ وَمَنِ اخْتُلِفَ فِيهِ .

Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "People belong to different trees, while Ali and I belong to one tree."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains a narrator I do not know, and a narrator about whom there is disagreement.
