Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed along any of the roads of Madinah, the fragrance of musk would come from that road, and people would say: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) has passed by here.
Imam Abu Ya'la, Imam al-Bazzar and Imam al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat recorded it, except that (al-Tabarani) recorded these words: "When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came towards us, we would know it from the purity of his fragrance." The narrators of Imam Abu Ya'la have been declared trustworthy.
Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I was travelling with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) on a journey, and he had seated me behind him (on his mount). I have never touched anything softer than the skin of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), nor have I found any fragrance purer than the fragrance of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). After this the narrator mentioned the complete hadith.
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it, and Imam al-Bazzar recorded something similar; its chain contains a narrator, al-Hasan bin Abi Ja'far, who has been declared trustworthy despite his weakness.
Sayyidah Umm Asim (may Allah be pleased with her), who was the wife of Sayyiduna Utbah bin Farqad (may Allah be pleased with him), narrates: "We were four wives of Sayyiduna Utbah bin Farqad (may Allah be pleased with him). Each woman among us would try to apply the finest of perfume, so that she would be more fragrant than her co-wife. Sayyiduna Utbah (may Allah be pleased with him) did not apply any perfume; he only applied oil, merely passing his hand over his beard, yet his fragrance was better than ours. When he went out to the people, the people would say: We have never smelled a purer fragrance than the fragrance of Sayyiduna Utbah (may Allah be pleased with him). One day I said to him: We make every effort in applying perfume, yet your fragrance is purer than ours; what is the reason for this? He told me: 'Once, in the blessed time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), boils and pimples broke out on me. I complained of this to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered me to take off my extra clothing. I took off my extra clothing and sat in front of him (peace and blessings be upon him), with a cloth placed over my private parts. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) blew (dam) into his blessed hand and then passed that hand over my back and my stomach. From that day this fragrance has been emanating from my body.'"
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and recorded something similar in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. In one narration he recorded these words: "He had three wives." And in that narration he recorded these words: "Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) spread out his two hands, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) put his saliva on them, rubbed one of them over the other, then wiped my stomach with one of them and wiped my back with the other." The narrators of al-Mu'jam al-Awsat are the narrators of the "Sahih", except for Sayyidah Umm Asim (may Allah be pleased with her), and I do not know this lady.
Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! I wish to marry off my daughter, and I would like you to help me somewhat in this regard. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I do not have anything, but come tomorrow, and bring a bottle with a wide mouth, and bring a twig of a tree along with it. The sign between me and you will be that I will close the corner of the door." The man brought a bottle with a wide mouth and brought a twig of a tree, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) wiped the sweat from his forearms and filled that bottle. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Take this! And tell your daughter that when she wishes to apply perfume, she should dip this twig into this bottle and then apply perfume with it." The narrator says: Whenever that woman applied perfume, the people of Madinah would perceive that fragrance, and their house became known as "the House of the Fragrant Ones".
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains a narrator, Halbas al-Kalbi, and he is matruk (abandoned).
Sayyiduna Yazid bin al-Aswad al-Suwa'i (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I performed Hajj with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and I offered the Fajr prayer behind him at Mina. When he finished the prayer, there were two men behind the people who had not joined the people in the prayer. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Bring those two to me." The two were brought, and their limbs were trembling. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Did you two not pray with us?" They said: O Messenger of Allah! We were at our lodgings, and we thought that perhaps we would not reach the prayer (so we offered the prayer at our lodgings). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not do that! When you have prayed at your lodgings and then you find the congregational prayer, join it as well; it will be a voluntary (nafl) prayer for you." One of the two said: O Messenger of Allah! Pray for my forgiveness. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Allah! Forgive him." The narrator says: Then the people crowded around the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). In those days I was the most youthful and the strongest of men. I made my way through the people and took hold of the hand of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and placed it on my chest, and I have never seen anything cooler or more fragrant than the blessed hand of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Imam Abu Dawud and Imam al-Tirmidhi recorded this report up to these words: "It will be a voluntary prayer for you."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir in abridged form, and its chain is hasan (good).
Ja'far bin Mahmud bin Maslamah narrates that his grandmother, Sayyidah Umayrah bint Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with her), told him: "She came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), she and her sisters with her, and these women accepted Islam at the blessed hand of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him); they were five women. She says: I found the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) eating qadid (this means dried meat). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) chewed a piece of meat for those women and then gave that piece to me, and each one of those women chewed that piece. As long as those women lived, fragrance kept coming from their mouths."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Ishaq bin Idris al-Aswari, and he is da'if (weak).
