وَعَنْ أُمِّ عَاصِمٍ امْرَأَةِ فَرْقَدَ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ قَالَتْ : كُنَّا عِنْدَ عُتْبَةَ أَرْبَعَ نِسْوَةٍ مَا مِنَّا امْرَأَةٌ إِلَّا وَهِيَ تَجْتَهِدُ فِي الطِّيبِ لِتَكُونَ أَطْيَبَ مِنْ صَاحِبَتِهَا ، وَمَا يَمَسُّ عُتْبَةُ الطِّيبَ إِلَّا أَنْ يَمَسَّ دُهْنًا ، يَمْسَحُ لِحْيَتَهُ وَهُوَ أَطْيَبُ رِيحًا مِنَّا ، وَكَانَ إِذَا خَرَجَ إِلَى النَّاسِ ، قَالُوا : مَا شَمَمْنَا رِيحًا أَطْيَبَ مِنْ رِيحِ عُتْبَةَ ، فَقُلْتُ لَهُ يَوْمًا : إِنَّا لَنَجْتَهِدُ فِي الطِّيبِ وَلَأَنْتَ أَطْيَبُ رِيحًا مِنَّا فَمِمَّ ذَاكَ ؟ فَقَالَ : أَخَذَنِي الشَّرَى عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - فَشَكَوْتُ ذَلِكَ إِلَيْهِ ، فَأَمَرَنِي أَنْ أَتَجَرَّدَ ، فَتَجَرَّدْتُ وَقَعَدْتُ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ ، وَأَلْقَيْتُ ثَوْبِي عَلَى فَرْجِي ، فَنَفَثَ فِي يَدِهِ ، ثُمَّ وَضَعَ يَدَهُ عَلَى ظَهْرِي وَبَطْنِي ، فَعَبِقَ بِي هَذَا الطِّيبُ مِنْ يَوْمَئِذٍ . رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْأَوْسَطِ وَالْكَبِيرِ بِنَحْوِهِ وَقَالَ فِي بَعْضِهَا : ثَلَاثُ نِسْوَةٍ وَقَالَ فِيهِ : ثُمَّ بَسَطَ يَدَيْهِ فَبَصَقَ فِيهِمَا ، فَمَسَحَ إِحْدَاهُمَا عَلَى الْأُخْرَى ، وَمَسَحَ إِحْدَاهُمَا عَلَى بَطْنِي ، وَالْأُخْرَى عَلَى ظَهْرِي . وَرِجَالُ الْأَوْسَطِ رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ غَيْرَ أُمِّ عَاصِمٍ فَإِنِّي لَمْ أَعْرِفْهَا .
Sayyidah Umm Asim (may Allah be pleased with her), who was the wife of Sayyiduna Utbah bin Farqad (may Allah be pleased with him), narrates: "We were four wives of Sayyiduna Utbah bin Farqad (may Allah be pleased with him). Each woman among us would try to apply the finest of perfume, so that she would be more fragrant than her co-wife. Sayyiduna Utbah (may Allah be pleased with him) did not apply any perfume; he only applied oil, merely passing his hand over his beard, yet his fragrance was better than ours. When he went out to the people, the people would say: We have never smelled a purer fragrance than the fragrance of Sayyiduna Utbah (may Allah be pleased with him). One day I said to him: We make every effort in applying perfume, yet your fragrance is purer than ours; what is the reason for this? He told me: 'Once, in the blessed time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), boils and pimples broke out on me. I complained of this to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered me to take off my extra clothing. I took off my extra clothing and sat in front of him (peace and blessings be upon him), with a cloth placed over my private parts. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) blew (dam) into his blessed hand and then passed that hand over my back and my stomach. From that day this fragrance has been emanating from my body.'"
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and recorded something similar in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. In one narration he recorded these words: "He had three wives." And in that narration he recorded these words: "Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) spread out his two hands, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) put his saliva on them, rubbed one of them over the other, then wiped my stomach with one of them and wiped my back with the other." The narrators of al-Mu'jam al-Awsat are the narrators of the "Sahih", except for Sayyidah Umm Asim (may Allah be pleased with her), and I do not know this lady.
