Abu Imran al-Jawni narrates: One of the Companions narrated this hadith to me while we were taking part in a campaign towards Persia. He said that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever sleeps on the roof of a house that has no raised edges, and then falls and dies, the (divine) protection is free of him; and whoever travels by sea when it is stormy, the protection is free of him."
This narration was recorded by Imam Ahmad from his teacher Ibrahim bin al-Qasim, and I do not know him.

Abu Imran al-Jawni narrates: We were in Persia, and our commander was Zuhayr bin Abdullah. He said: A man told me that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever spends the night on the roof of a house around which there are no (raised edges, that is, a parapet) to hold back his foot (that is, to act as a barrier), the (divine) protection is free of him; and whoever travels by sea when it is stormy, the protection is free of him."
This narration was recorded by Imam Ahmad both as marfu' and as mawquf, and the narrators of both are the narrators of the Sahih.
