Sayyiduna Ubadah bin al-Samit (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Soon there will be tribulations in which a believer will not be able to put an end to (evil) with his hand or his tongue." Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "O Messenger of Allah! Will that cause any decrease in their faith?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No! Only as much as a drop decreases a water-skin." Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) asked: "Why is that?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "They will detest that (evil) in their hearts."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains Talhah bin Zayd al-Qurashi, who is extremely da'if (weak).

It is reported from him that he said: When you see a sinful person and you are not able to put an end to (his deed), then face that (person) with a frown.
Al-Tabarani recorded it with two chains, one of which contains Sharik, who is hasan al-hadith (fair in hadith), and the rest of its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih. (Al-Haythami says:) I say: A hadith will come later about the one who is absent from a matter but is pleased with it, and the one who is present at the matter but detests it.
