It is reported about Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Salam (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the people rose in agitation over the matter of Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: O people! Do not kill this elder; seek to have him make amends, for whenever a nation killed its prophet, its affairs were not set right until the blood of seventy thousand of them had been shed, and whenever a nation killed its prophet's caliph, its affairs were not set right until the blood of forty thousand of them had been shed. But the people paid no attention to what he said, and they killed him (Sayyiduna Uthman). Once he sat on the road waiting for Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) and asked Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him): Where do you intend to go? He said: I wish to go to the land of Iraq. Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Salam (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Do not go to Iraq; keep to the pulpit of the Messenger of Allah. Some of Sayyiduna Ali's (may Allah be pleased with him) companions began to set upon him, and Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Leave him, for he is one of us, the People of the House. When Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) was martyred, Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Salam (may Allah be pleased with him) said to Ibn Ma'qil: This is the year forty, and at its turn there will be a peace settlement. Whenever a nation killed its prophet, seventy thousand were killed in return for him, and whenever a nation killed its prophet's caliph, forty thousand were killed in return for him.
Al-Tabarani recorded it through two chains, and the narrators of this one are the narrators of the Sahih. It has another chain that will come in the chapter on the virtues of Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him).

Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said about Sayyiduna Imam Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him): "This son of mine is a leader, and Allah Almighty will bring about reconciliation through him between two groups of the Muslims."
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).

Abu Mijlaz narrates: Sayyiduna Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna al-Mughirah bin Shu'bah (may Allah be pleased with him) said to Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him): Sayyiduna Imam Hasan bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with them both) is a man of weak opinion, and he has a particular stance. We know his stance; we will speak on that subject, and then he will have nothing left to say. Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Do not do this! But they did not accept what Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) said. Then Sayyiduna Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) climbed the pulpit, mentioned Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) and criticised him. Then Sayyiduna al-Mughirah bin Shu'bah (may Allah be pleased with him) climbed the pulpit, praised and glorified Allah Almighty, and criticised Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him). Sayyiduna Imam Hasan bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with them both) was told: Climb the pulpit. He said: I will not climb (the pulpit), nor will I speak, until you agree with me that if I say what is true you will affirm it, and if I say what is false you will reject it. The people agreed this with him. He climbed the pulpit, praised and glorified Allah Almighty, and then said: O Amr and O Mughirah! I ask you both by Allah: do you both know that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "May Allah Almighty curse the one driving and the one riding," and that one of the two was so-and-so? Both of them replied: By Allah, yes, it is so. Sayyiduna Imam Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Mu'awiyah and O Mughirah! I ask you by Allah: do you both know that the Messenger of Allah cursed Amr (bin al-As) with a curse for every line of verse he composed? Both of them replied: By Allah, yes. Sayyiduna Imam Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Amr, I ask you by Allah, and I ask you too, O Mu'awiyah bin Abi Sufyan: do you both know that the Messenger of Allah cursed this man's people? Both of them replied: Yes. Then Sayyiduna Imam Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I praise Allah that the one you criticised is free of this (that the Messenger of Allah should have cursed him). The narrator says: After this he mentioned the full narration.
Al-Tabarani recorded it from his teacher Zakariyya bin Yahya al-Saji. Al-Dhahabi says: He is one of the reliable narrators; I know of no criticism of him at all. Ibn al-Qattan says: There is disagreement about this man in hadith; some declared him thiqah (trustworthy) and others called him da'if (weak). The rest of its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.

Isa bin Yazid narrates: Al-Ash'ath bin Qays sought permission to come in to Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) in Kufah. Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) delayed giving him permission for a while. When he came in to Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah, Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas and Sayyiduna Imam Hasan bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with them) were also present with him. Al-Ash'ath said: O Commander of the Believers! Did you keep me from coming in because of these two? Yet you know that their master came to us and filled us with lies. The narrator says: He meant Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him). Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: By Allah, this man (that is, Sayyiduna Ali, may Allah be pleased with him) had your grandfather's horse, and he struck a blow at your father (that is, this man fought your father and grandfather for the supremacy of Islam). Al-Ash'ath said: O Commander of the Believers! Do you hear what he is saying? Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: You were the one who started it.
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains a group of narrators whom I do not know.

It is reported about Sayyiduna Shaddad bin Aws (may Allah be pleased with him) that once he came to Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him). Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) was seated, and Sayyiduna Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) was seated on his bedding. Sayyiduna Shaddad (may Allah be pleased with him) sat down between the two of them and said: Do you both know why I have sat between you? I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "When you see these two together, separate them, for by Allah, they will come together only for some treachery." (Then Sayyiduna Shaddad bin Aws, may Allah be pleased with him, said:) So I wanted to separate the two of you.
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains Abd al-Rahman bin Ya'la bin Shaddad, whom I do not know, and the rest of its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
