Suwayd bin Ghafalah narrates: I heard Sayyiduna Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) say: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "In this Ummah there will be two arbiters; both of them will be astray, and whoever follows them will also be astray." The narrator says: I said: O Abu Musa! Take care that you are not one of the two.
Al-Tabarani recorded it and said: In my view this report is batil (false), because Ja'far bin Ali is an unknown shaykh who is not identified. (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Its weakness comes only from Ali bin Abis al-Asadi, for he is matruk (abandoned).

Abu Maryam narrates: I heard Sayyiduna Ammar bin Yasir (may Allah be pleased with him) say: O Abu Musa! Did you not hear the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whoever deliberately attributes a lie to me, let him prepare to take his particular place in Hell"? And I am about to ask you about a hadith; if you speak the truth, the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) will not reproach you. I ask you by Allah: did the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) not say this, addressing you in particular: "Soon a trial will arise in my Ummah, O Abu Musa, in which you too will be present; in it the one sleeping will be better than the one sitting, the one sitting will be better than the one standing, and the one standing will be better than the one walking" (or the meaning may be: if you stay asleep in it, that will be better for you than sitting; if you stay seated, that will be better for you than standing; and if you stay standing, that will be better for you than walking)? (Then Sayyiduna Ammar, may Allah be pleased with him, said:) The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned you in particular; he did not mean the people in general. Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) then went away and gave no reply.
Abu Ya'la recorded it, and these are his words.

In a narration of al-Tabarani the wording is: Sayyiduna Ammar bin Yasir (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to a man. Its chain contains Ali bin Abi Fatimah, who is Ali bin al-Hazawwar, and he is matruk (abandoned).

Muhammad bin al-Dahhak al-Hizami narrates: Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) stood on the pulpit of Kufah; this was when the two arbiters had differed. Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I had forbidden you this arbitration, and you disobeyed me. A young man of wheatish complexion stood up before him and said: By Allah, you did not forbid us; rather, you commanded us and brought ruin upon us, and when something you disliked came of it, you declared yourself free of blame and laid your sin upon us. Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: Who are you, and what have you to do with such words? May Allah disfigure you! By Allah, when the community was united you were obscure in it, but when the trial came you sprouted up in it like the horn of a goat. Then he turned to the people and said: How excellent before Allah is the position that Sa'd bin Malik and Abdullah bin Umar took! By Allah, if it was a sin, it is a small sin that will be forgiven, and if it was a good deed, it is a great one that will be rewarded.
Al-Tabarani recorded it; I do not know Muhammad bin al-Dahhak or his son Yahya.
