Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Ja'far (may Allah be pleased with him) relates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) seated him behind himself on his mount and said: "O young man, shall I not give you something? Shall I not teach you words through which Allah Almighty will benefit you? Guard (the commands of) Allah Almighty and He will guard you. Keep your attention towards Allah and you will find Him with you. When you ask, ask Allah Almighty; and when you seek help, seek help from Allah Almighty. Know that the pen has dried regarding whatever is to be. Know that if the whole of creation intended something for you that has not been written against you, they would not be able to prevail over you. And know that help comes with patience, relief comes with distress, and with hardship there is ease."
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains Ali bin Abi Ali al-Qurashi, who is da'if (weak).

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) reports that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The first thing Allah Almighty created was the pen, and Allah Almighty commanded it to write down everything."
Al-Bazzar recorded it, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) reports that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When Allah Almighty created the pen, He said to it: 'Write!' So it wrote down whatever was to be until the establishment of the Hour."
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy). A hadith of this kind has already passed in the commentary on Surah "Nun", and another hadith will come later in the chapter on righteousness and maintaining ties of kinship, if Allah wills.

Hadith Takhrij«اخرجه الطبراني فى المعجم الكبير (12500) ، أخرجه المعجم الكبير للطبراني برقم: 10595، وأخرجه الأحاديث المختارة برقم: 360»
Hibban bin Ubaydullah bin Zuhayr Abu Zuhayr al-Basri relates: I asked al-Dahhak bin Muzahim about this saying of Allah Almighty: "No misfortune befalls on the earth or in yourselves except that it is (already settled) in a Book (that is, the Preserved Tablet) before We bring it into being; indeed that is easy for Allah." And I asked about this saying of Allah Almighty: "We were recording whatever you used to do." And I asked about this saying: "Indeed We have created everything according to a measure (qadar)." Al-Dahhak replied: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: Allah Almighty created the Throne, then rose over it (istawa); then He created the pen and commanded it to run under His knowledge. The pen is as large as the distance between the heaven and the earth. It asked: "O Lord, for what shall I run?" The Lord said: "For that which I am creating and which is to be in My creation, whether it relates to rain, or plants, or souls, or deeds, or provision, or the appointed term of death." So the pen ran with whatever is to be until the Day of Resurrection, and Allah Almighty kept it fixed in a hidden Book with Him beneath the Throne. As for this saying of Allah Almighty: "We were recording whatever you used to do," Allah Almighty has appointed some angels who copy from that Book every year in the month of Ramadan, on Laylat al-Qadr, whatever is to happen on the earth from that time until the same time of the following year; they note it down, and then with it they meet Allah's guardian angels appointed over the servants every Thursday evening. They find that what the guardian angels take up conforms to what is in the writing they have, with neither decrease nor increase in it. As for the saying of Allah Almighty: "Indeed We have created everything according to a measure (qadar)," indeed Allah Almighty has created everything; nothing in creation resembles it, and then He decreed for that (thing) the provision that suited it. He created the camel in such a way that nothing of it is found in the other animals of His creation; and the same is the case with everything He has created. He appointed for the animals and birds of the land a particular provision suited to them on land, and for the animals and birds of the sea He created what is best for them in the sea. This is what is meant by the saying of Allah Almighty: "Indeed We have created everything according to a measure (qadar)."
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains al-Dahhak, whom a group declared da'if (weak) and Ibn Hibban declared thiqah (trustworthy); he (Ibn Hibban) says: "He did not hear from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both)." The remaining narrators of this narration have been declared trustworthy.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: I wished that if a man from the Qadariyyah sect were with me, I would strike his head (that is, give him a beating). The people asked: "Why is that?" He said: "Because Allah Almighty created the Preserved Tablet from a white pearl; its two covers are of red ruby, its pen is light and its writing is light, and it is as large as the distance between the heaven and the earth. The Lord looks at it three hundred and sixty times every day, and with each look He creates something, gives life to someone, gives death to someone, gives honour to someone, gives disgrace to someone, and does whatever He wills."
Al-Tabarani recorded it through two chains, and the narrators of this narration are thiqat (trustworthy).

Sayyiduna Marthad (may Allah be pleased with him), who was one of the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), said: Allah Almighty drew two kinds of lines in His writing, then He raised the Pen; in one of the two He wrote the creation, and in the other line He wrote what the creation would do.
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains al-Husayn bin Yahya al-Khushani, whom Duhaym and others declared thiqah (trustworthy), while the majority declared him da'if (weak).
