Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Shibl al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) states: Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: When you come to my tent, stand up and tell the people what you heard from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). So Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Learn the Qur'an! Do not go to extremes regarding it, do not neglect it, do not consume its price, and do not seek to gain worldly things by means of it." (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: After this he mentioned the complete hadith, which has already passed in the chapter on buying and selling.
Imam Ahmad recorded it, and Imam al-Bazzar recorded something similar. The narrators of Imam Ahmad are thiqat (trustworthy).

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Learn the Qur'an, do not consume payment for it, do not increase your wealth through it, do not go to extremes regarding it and do not neglect it. Learn the Qur'an, for it will be an intercessor for the one who recites it on the Day of Resurrection. Learn Surah al-Baqarah, for taking it up is a blessing and abandoning it is a source of regret, and the people of falsehood (that is, the sorcerers) are not able to learn it."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat from his teacher al-Miqdam bin Dawud, who is da'if (weak).
