Kulayb bin Shihab states: Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) heard a resounding noise in the mosque: people were reciting the Qur'an and teaching it. Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Glad tidings to these people! These people were the most beloved of people to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and Imam al-Bazzar recorded something similar. The chain of Imam al-Tabarani contains a narrator, Hafs bin Sulayman al-Ghadiri, who is matruk (abandoned); according to one report Imam Ahmad declared him thiqah (trustworthy), and according to another he called him da'if (weak). The chain of Imam al-Bazzar contains a narrator, Ishaq bin Ibrahim al-Thaqafi, who is da'if (weak).

Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Junadah states: I was among the first of the people of Ta'if to come to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). I set out from my family in al-Sarat in the morning and reached Mina at the time of Asr. I climbed the mountain and then came down, and then I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and accepted Islam. He taught me Surah al-Ikhlas and Surah al-Zalzalah, and he taught me these words: "Subhan Allah, wal-hamdu lillah, wa la ilaha illallah, wallahu akbar (Allah is free of every imperfection; all praise belongs to Allah alone; there is no god besides Allah; and Allah is the Greatest)." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "These are the enduring good deeds."

It is reported about Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that he would teach a person a verse and then say: This verse (learning it) is better than everything upon which the sun rises, and better than everything that is on the earth; until Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) would say the same about the whole Qur'an.

In one narration the words are: In the morning people would come to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) at his house, and he would say: Stay where you are! Then he would pass by those whom he taught the Qur'an and say: O so-and-so! Which surah are you on? The man would tell him, and he would ask: Which verse are you on? Then he would teach him the verse that follows it and say: Learn it! For it is better for you than everything between the heavens and the earth. The narrator says: The man would think that perhaps there is no verse in the Qur'an better than that one. Then he would pass by the next person and say the same thing to him, until he had said the same to all of them. Imam al-Tabarani recorded all these narrations, and the narrators of all of them are thiqat (trustworthy), except that the wording of one narration is: that it is reported by Abu Ubaydah from his father, and Abu Ubaydah did not hear from his father.

Abu Ishaq states: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "If one of you were told: 'If you go to the village in the morning, you will get four she-camels,' he would say: 'When will morning come and when will I go?' Yet if a person goes in the morning and learns one verse of the Book of Allah, it is better for him than four, and another four, and another four, until he counted a large number and said (that it is better even than receiving that many she-camels)."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih, except that Abu Ishaq did not hear from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him).
