Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) intended to set out for the expedition of Tabuk, he said to al-Jadd bin Qays: "O Jadd bin Qays, what do you say about fighting jihad against the Banu al-Asfar (the Romans)?" He said: "O Messenger of Allah! I am a man with many wives, and when I see the women of the Banu al-Asfar I will fall into temptation. Will you permit me to stay at home, and not put me into temptation?" Then Allah Almighty revealed this verse: "And among them is one who says: Permit me and do not put me into temptation. Behold, they have already fallen into temptation."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Its chain contains a narrator, Yahya al-Himmani, who is da'if (weak).

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Go out on campaign! You will gain the daughters of the Banu al-Asfar as spoils." Some people from among the hypocrites said: "He is putting you to trial through women (i.e. he is leading you into the jaws of death)." Then Allah Almighty revealed this verse: "And among them is one who says: Permit me and do not put me into temptation."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it. Its chain contains a narrator, Ibrahim bin Uthman, who is da'if (weak).
