عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ : أَمَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - بِرَجْمِ الْيَهُودِيِّ وَالْيَهُودِيَّةِ عِنْدَ بَابِ الْمَسْجِدِ ، فَلَمَّا وَجَدَ الْيَهُودِيُّ مَسَّ الْحِجَارَةِ ، قَامَ عَلَى صَاحِبَتِهِ فَحَنَى عَلَيْهَا ; يَقِيهَا مَسَّ الْحِجَارَةِ حَتَّى قُتِلَا جَمِيعًا ، فَكَانَ مِمَّا صَنَعَ اللَّهُ لِرَسُولِهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - فِي تَحْقِيقِ الزِّنَا مِنْهُمَا .
رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ وَالطَّبَرَانِيُّ إِلَّا أَنَّهُ قَالَ : إِنَّ النَّبِيَّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - أُتِيَ بِيَهُودِيٍّ وَيَهُودِيَّةٍ قَدْ أُحْصِنَا فَسَأَلُوهُ أَنْ يَحْكُمَ بَيْنَهُمَا بِالرَّجْمِ فَرَجَمَهُمَا فِي فِنَاءِ الْمَسْجِدِ . وَرِجَالُ أَحْمَدَ ثِقَاتٌ ، وَقَدْ صَرَّحَ ابْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بِالسَّمَاعِ فِي رِوَايَةِ أَحْمَدَ .
رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ وَالطَّبَرَانِيُّ إِلَّا أَنَّهُ قَالَ : إِنَّ النَّبِيَّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - أُتِيَ بِيَهُودِيٍّ وَيَهُودِيَّةٍ قَدْ أُحْصِنَا فَسَأَلُوهُ أَنْ يَحْكُمَ بَيْنَهُمَا بِالرَّجْمِ فَرَجَمَهُمَا فِي فِنَاءِ الْمَسْجِدِ . وَرِجَالُ أَحْمَدَ ثِقَاتٌ ، وَقَدْ صَرَّحَ ابْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بِالسَّمَاعِ فِي رِوَايَةِ أَحْمَدَ .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered a Jewish man and a Jewish woman to be stoned near the door of the mosque. When the stones struck the Jewish man, he moved towards his companion and bent over her to shield her from the stones, until they were both killed. This was among what Allah Almighty did for His Messenger in establishing the adultery of the two.
Ahmad and al-Tabarani recorded it, except that his wording is: "A Jewish man and a Jewish woman, both of whom were muhsan, were brought to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Those people asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to judge between them with stoning, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had them both stoned in the courtyard of the mosque." The narrators of Ahmad are thiqat (trustworthy), and Ibn Ishaq has explicitly stated that he heard it directly, in the narration of Ahmad.

وَعَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ أَنَّ رَهْطًا أَتَوُا النَّبِيَّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - جَاؤُوا مَعَهُمْ بِامْرَأَةٍ فَقَالُوا : يَا مُحَمَّدُ ، مَا أُنْزِلَ عَلَيْكَ فِي الزِّنَا ؟ ، فَقَالَ : " اذْهَبُوا فَائْتُونِي بِرَجُلَيْنِ مِنْ عُلَمَاءِ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ " . فَذَهَبُوا فَأَتَوْهُ بِرَجُلَيْنِ أَحَدُهُمَا شَابٌّ فَصِيحٌ وَالْآخَرُ شَيْخٌ قَدْ سَقَطَ حَاجِبَاهُ عَلَى عَيْنَيْهِ حَتَّى يَرْفَعَهُمَا بِعِصَابَةٍ .
فَقَالَ : " أَنْشُدُكُمَا اللَّهَ ، لَمَا أَخْبَرْتُمُونَا بِمَا أَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ عَلَى مُوسَى فِي الزَّانِي ؟ " . فَقَالَا : نَشَدْتَنَا بِعَظِيمٍ ، وَإِنَّا نُخْبِرُكَ : إِنَّ اللَّهَ تَعَالَى أَنْزَلَ عَلَى مُوسَى فِي الزَّانِي الرَّجْمَ ، وَإِنَّا كُنَّا قَوْمًا شَببَةً وَكَانَ نِسَاؤُنَا حَسَنَةً وُجُوهُهُنَّ ، وَإِنَّ ذَلِكَ كَثُرَ فِينَا فَلَمْ نَقُمْ لَهُ ، فَصِرْنَا نَجْلِدُ وَالتَّعْيِيرُ ، فَقَالَ : " اذْهَبُوا بِصَاحِبَتِكُمْ فَإِذَا وَضَعَتْ مَا فِي بَطْنِهَا فَارْجُمُوهَا " .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَرِجَالُهُ ثِقَاتٌ . وَلَهُ طَرِيقٌ فِي سُورَةِ الْمَائِدَةِ .
فَقَالَ : " أَنْشُدُكُمَا اللَّهَ ، لَمَا أَخْبَرْتُمُونَا بِمَا أَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ عَلَى مُوسَى فِي الزَّانِي ؟ " . فَقَالَا : نَشَدْتَنَا بِعَظِيمٍ ، وَإِنَّا نُخْبِرُكَ : إِنَّ اللَّهَ تَعَالَى أَنْزَلَ عَلَى مُوسَى فِي الزَّانِي الرَّجْمَ ، وَإِنَّا كُنَّا قَوْمًا شَببَةً وَكَانَ نِسَاؤُنَا حَسَنَةً وُجُوهُهُنَّ ، وَإِنَّ ذَلِكَ كَثُرَ فِينَا فَلَمْ نَقُمْ لَهُ ، فَصِرْنَا نَجْلِدُ وَالتَّعْيِيرُ ، فَقَالَ : " اذْهَبُوا بِصَاحِبَتِكُمْ فَإِذَا وَضَعَتْ مَا فِي بَطْنِهَا فَارْجُمُوهَا " .

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: Some people came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), bringing a woman with them. They said: "O Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), what has been revealed to you concerning adultery?" He said: "Go and bring me two men from among the scholars of the Children of Israel." They went and brought two of their scholars to him; one of them was a young man and eloquent, and the other was an old man whose eyebrows drooped over his eyes, so that they had to be lifted. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I ask you both by Allah: tell us what Allah Almighty revealed to Sayyiduna Musa concerning the one who commits adultery." They said: "You have asked us by something mighty, and we will tell you: Allah Almighty revealed to Sayyiduna Musa the command of stoning for the one who commits adultery. We are a people among whom young men are many, and our women are beautiful. Adultery became widespread among us, so we stopped giving this punishment; we would have them lashed and put to shame." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Take your companion away, and when she gives birth to the child in her womb, stone her."

وَعَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ جَزْءٍ أَنَّ الْيَهُودَ أَتَوْا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - بِيَهُودِيٍّ وَيَهُودِيَّةٍ قَدْ زَنَيَا ، وَقَدْ أُحْصِنَا ، فَأَمَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - فَرُجِمَا . قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ : فَكُنْتُ فِي مَنْ رَجَمَهُمَا .
رَوَاهُ الْبَزَّارُ وَالطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْكَبِيرِ وَالْأَوْسَطِ ، وَقَالَ فِيهِ : لَا يُرْوَى عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ إِلَّا بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ ، وَفِيهِ ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ وَحَدِيثُهُ حَسَنٌ ، وَفِيهِ ضَعْفٌ ، وَبَقِيَّةُ رِجَالِهِ ثِقَاتٌ .
رَوَاهُ الْبَزَّارُ وَالطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْكَبِيرِ وَالْأَوْسَطِ ، وَقَالَ فِيهِ : لَا يُرْوَى عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ إِلَّا بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ ، وَفِيهِ ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ وَحَدِيثُهُ حَسَنٌ ، وَفِيهِ ضَعْفٌ ، وَبَقِيَّةُ رِجَالِهِ ثِقَاتٌ .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin al-Harith bin Jaz' (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Jews brought to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) a Jewish man and a Jewish woman who had committed adultery, and both of them were muhsan. So by the order of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) the two of them were stoned. Sayyiduna Abdullah bin al-Harith (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I was among those who stoned them.
Al-Bazzar and al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and he said in it: From Sayyiduna Abdullah bin al-Harith (may Allah be pleased with him)

وَعَنْ جَابِرٍ قَالَ : جَاءَتِ الْيَهُودُ بِرَجُلٍ مِنْهُمْ وَامْرَأَةٍ زَنَيَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " ائْتُونِي بِأَعْلَمِ رَجُلَيْنِ فِيكُمْ " . فَأَتَوْهُ بِابْنَيْ صُورِيَا ، فَقَالَ : " أَنْتُمَا أَعْلَمُ مَنْ وَرَاءَكُمَا ؟ " . فَقَالَا : كَذَلِكَ يَزْعُمُونَ .
فَنَاشَدَهُمَا بِاللَّهِ الَّذِي أَنْزَلَ التَّوْرَاةَ عَلَى مُوسَى : " كَيْفَ تَجِدُونَ أَمْرَ هَذَيْنِ فِي تَوْرَاةِ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى ؟ " . قَالَا : نَجِدُ فِي التَّوْرَاةِ : إِذَا وُجِدَ الرَّجُلُ مَعَ الْمَرْأَةِ فِي بَيْتٍ فَهِيَ رِيبَةٌ ، فِيهَا عُقُوبَةٌ ، وَإِذَا وُجِدَ فِي ثَوْبِهَا أَوْ عَلَى بَطْنِهَا فَهِيَ رِيبَةٌ فِيهَا عُقُوبَةٌ . فَإِذَا شَهِدَ أَرْبَعَةٌ أَنَّهُمْ نَظَرُوا إِلَيْهِ مِثْلَ الْمِيلِ فِي الْمُكْحُلَةِ رَجَمُوهُ ، فَقَالَ : " مَا يَمْنَعُكُمْ أَنْ تَرْجُمُوهُمَا ؟ " . فَقَالَا : ذَهَبَ سُلْطَانُنَا فَكَرِهْنَا الْقَتْلَ ، فَدَعَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - بِالشُّهُودِ فَشَهِدُوا فَأَمَرَ بِرَجْمِهِمَا .
قُلْتُ : رَوَاهُ أَبُو دَاوُدَ وَغَيْرُهُ بِاخْتِصَارٍ . رَوَاهُ الْبَزَّارُ مِنْ طَرِيقِ مُجَالِدٍ ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، وَقَدْ صَحَّحَهَا ابْنُ عَدِيٍّ .
فَنَاشَدَهُمَا بِاللَّهِ الَّذِي أَنْزَلَ التَّوْرَاةَ عَلَى مُوسَى : " كَيْفَ تَجِدُونَ أَمْرَ هَذَيْنِ فِي تَوْرَاةِ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى ؟ " . قَالَا : نَجِدُ فِي التَّوْرَاةِ : إِذَا وُجِدَ الرَّجُلُ مَعَ الْمَرْأَةِ فِي بَيْتٍ فَهِيَ رِيبَةٌ ، فِيهَا عُقُوبَةٌ ، وَإِذَا وُجِدَ فِي ثَوْبِهَا أَوْ عَلَى بَطْنِهَا فَهِيَ رِيبَةٌ فِيهَا عُقُوبَةٌ . فَإِذَا شَهِدَ أَرْبَعَةٌ أَنَّهُمْ نَظَرُوا إِلَيْهِ مِثْلَ الْمِيلِ فِي الْمُكْحُلَةِ رَجَمُوهُ ، فَقَالَ : " مَا يَمْنَعُكُمْ أَنْ تَرْجُمُوهُمَا ؟ " . فَقَالَا : ذَهَبَ سُلْطَانُنَا فَكَرِهْنَا الْقَتْلَ ، فَدَعَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - بِالشُّهُودِ فَشَهِدُوا فَأَمَرَ بِرَجْمِهِمَا .
قُلْتُ : رَوَاهُ أَبُو دَاوُدَ وَغَيْرُهُ بِاخْتِصَارٍ . رَوَاهُ الْبَزَّارُ مِنْ طَرِيقِ مُجَالِدٍ ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، وَقَدْ صَحَّحَهَا ابْنُ عَدِيٍّ .
Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Jews brought a man and a woman from among them who had committed adultery. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Bring me the two most learned men among you." So the people brought the two sons of Suriya to him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Are you two more learned than those behind you?" They said: "That is what people claim." So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) adjured them both by Allah, who revealed the Torah to Sayyiduna Musa: "What ruling do you find in the Torah of Allah concerning these two (the man and the woman)?" The two of them said: "We find this ruling in the Torah: When a man is found with a woman in a house, it is a suspicious situation, and there is a punishment for it. When a man is found in a woman's garment or upon her belly, it is a suspicious situation, and there is a punishment for it. And when four people testify that they saw the man, like the kohl stick going into the kohl container (that he committed adultery with that woman), he is to be stoned." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then what prevented you from stoning these two?" The two of them said: "Our authority has gone, so we disliked killing." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called for the witnesses; they testified, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that the two of them (the man and the woman) be stoned. (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say:
