Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A man from among the Muslims granted protection to a man, and the commander of the army was Sayyiduna Abu Ubaydah bin al-Jarrah (may Allah be pleased with him). Sayyiduna Khalid bin al-Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Do not grant him protection." Sayyiduna Abu Ubaydah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "We will grant him protection. I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'Any one of the Muslims may grant protection on behalf of the Muslims.'"
Imam Ahmad, Imam Abu Ya'la and Imam al-Bazzar recorded this narration. Its chain contains a narrator, al-Hajjaj bin Artah, and he is a mudallis (one who conceals defects in the chain).

A man from the people of Egypt narrated concerning Sayyiduna Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) that Muhammad bin Abi Bakr was taken captive, and he refused. Sayyiduna Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) kept questioning him, for he wished that he would claim a guarantee of safety. Then Sayyiduna Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Even the lowest of the people may grant protection on behalf of the people."
Imam Ahmad, Imam Abu Ya'la and Imam al-Tabarani recorded this narration, and its chain contains a man who is not named. The remaining narrators of Imam Ahmad are the narrators of the Sahih.

Sayyidah Aishah Siddiqah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The covenant of protection of the Muslims is one and the same. If a woman grants protection on their behalf, do not violate it. On the Day of Resurrection every betrayer will have a particular banner by which he will be recognised."
Imam Abu Ya'la recorded this narration. Its chain contains a narrator, Muhammad bin As'ad; Ibn Hibban declared him thiqah (trustworthy), and Abu Zur'ah declared him da'if (weak). Its remaining narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.

Sayyidah Umm Hani bint Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with her) granted protection to her brother Aqil, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) upheld the protection she had given.
Imam al-Tabarani recorded this narration in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, in abridged form, about Sayyidah Umm Hani (may Allah be pleased with her) only. Its chain contains a narrator, Abbad bin Kathir al-Thaqafi, and he is matruk (abandoned).

Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) set out to emigrate, his daughter Sayyidah Zaynab (may Allah be pleased with her) asked her husband Abu al-As bin al-Rabi' for permission to go to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He gave her permission, and she came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Then Sayyiduna Abu al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) came to Madinah and sent word to Sayyidah Zaynab (may Allah be pleased with her): "Obtain a guarantee of safety for me from your father." Sayyidah Zaynab (may Allah be pleased with her) came out and put her head out of the door of the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) room, while the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was leading the people in the morning prayer. Sayyidah Zaynab (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "O people, I am Zaynab, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah, and I have granted protection to Abu al-As." When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) finished the prayer, he said: "O people, I did not know about this until you heard it as well. Behold! Even the lowest of the Muslims may grant protection on behalf of the Muslims."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded this narration in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir in abridged form. Its chain contains a narrator, Ibn Lahi'ah; the hadith he narrates is hasan (good), and there is weakness in him. The remaining narrators of this narration are thiqat (trustworthy).
