Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) set out to emigrate, his daughter Sayyidah Zaynab (may Allah be pleased with her) asked her husband Abu al-As bin al-Rabi' for permission to go to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He gave her permission, and she came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Then Sayyiduna Abu al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) came to Madinah and sent word to Sayyidah Zaynab (may Allah be pleased with her): "Obtain a guarantee of safety for me from your father." Sayyidah Zaynab (may Allah be pleased with her) came out and put her head out of the door of the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) room, while the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was leading the people in the morning prayer. Sayyidah Zaynab (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "O people, I am Zaynab, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah, and I have granted protection to Abu al-As." When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) finished the prayer, he said: "O people, I did not know about this until you heard it as well. Behold! Even the lowest of the Muslims may grant protection on behalf of the Muslims."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded this narration in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir in abridged form. Its chain contains a narrator, Ibn Lahi'ah; the hadith he narrates is hasan (good), and there is weakness in him. The remaining narrators of this narration are thiqat (trustworthy).
