Sayyiduna Jabalah bin Harithah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not take part in a battle himself, he would give his weapons to Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) or Sayyiduna Usamah (may Allah be pleased with him).
Ahmad recorded it, and al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; the narrators of Ahmad are thiqat (trustworthy).

Amr bin Mirdas narrates: I came to Syria, and there was a man there with thick lips (the narrator is unsure; perhaps the words are: whose lips and nose were large). Weapons were lying in front of him, people were asking him (about them), and he was saying: "O people, take these weapons, put them in good order, and take part in jihad with them in the path of Allah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said this." (The narrator says:) I asked: Who is this man? The people said: This is Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him).
Ahmad recorded it in this way; its chain contains Abu al-Ward bin Thumamah, who is mastur (of unknown condition), and the rest of its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).

Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever shades the head of a ghazi, Allah Almighty will grant him shade on the Day of Resurrection, a day on which there will be no shade but His; and whoever equips a ghazi until he is fully equipped, he will receive a reward like that ghazi's." (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Ibn Majah recorded the last part of this narration.
