عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " اعْتَمُّوا تَزْدَادُوا حِلْمًا " .
رَوَاهُ الْبَزَّارُ ، وَالطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَفِيهِ عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَبِي حُمَيْدٍ وَهُوَ مَتْرُوكٌ . وَفِي إِسْنَادِ الطَّبَرَانِيِّ عِمْرَانُ بْنُ تَمَّامٍ ، وَضَعَّفَهُ أَبُو حَاتِمٍ بِحَدِيثٍ غَيْرِ هَذَا ، وَبَقِيَّةُ رِجَالِهِ ثِقَاتٌ .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Wear turbans! Your forbearance (or honour) will increase."
Al-Bazzar and al-Tabarani recorded it. Its chain contains Ubaydullah bin Abi Humayd, who is matruk (abandoned). Al-Tabarani's chain contains Imran bin Tammam; Abu Hatim declared him da'if (weak) because of a hadith other than this one. The remaining narrators of this report are thiqat (trustworthy).

وَعَنْ أَبِي الْمَلِيحِ بْنِ أُسَامَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " اعْتَمُّوا تَزْدَادُوا حِلْمًا " .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَفِيهِ عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَبِي حُمَيْدٍ ، وَهُوَ مَتْرُوكٌ .
Abu al-Malih bin Usamah narrates from his father that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Wear turbans! Your hilm (forbearance or honour) will increase."
Al-Tabarani recorded it. Its chain contains Ubaydullah bin Abi Humayd, who is matruk (abandoned).

وَعَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ : عَمَّمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ عَوْفٍ وَأَرْخَى لَهُ أَرْبَعَ أَصَابِعَ وَقَالَ : " إِنِّي لَمَّا صَعِدْتُ إِلَى السَّمَاءِ رَأَيْتُ أَكْثَرَ الْمَلَائِكَةِ مُعْتَمِّينَ " .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْأَوْسَطِ عَنْ شَيْخِهِ مِقْدَامِ بْنِ دَاوُدَ وَهُوَ ضَعِيفٌ .
Sayyidah Aishah Siddiqah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) tied a turban on Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him), letting its end hang down four fingers' length, and he said that when he went up to the heavens, he saw most of the angels wearing turbans.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat from his teacher Miqdam bin Dawud, and he is da'if (weak).

وَعَنْ ثَوْبَانَ مَوْلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - كَانَ إِذَا اعْتَمَّ أَرْخَى عِمَامَتَهُ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ وَمِنْ خَلْفِهِ .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْأَوْسَطِ وَفِيهِ الْحَجَّاجُ بْنُ رِشْدِينَ وَهُوَ ضَعِيفٌ .
Sayyiduna Thawban (may Allah be pleased with him), the freed slave of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), narrates: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) wore a turban, he would let the turban hang down in front of him and behind him.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Its chain contains al-Hajjaj bin Rishdin, who is da'if (weak).

وَعَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ : كُنْتُ عَاشِرَ عَشَرَةٍ فِي مَسْجِدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرُ ، وَعُثْمَانُ ، وَعَلِيٌّ وَابْنُ مَسْعُودٍ وَابْنُ جَبَلٍ وَحُذَيْفَةُ وَابْنُ عَوْفٍ وَأَنَا وَأَبُو سَعِيدٍ ، فَجَاءَ فَتًى مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ فَسَلَّمَ ثُمَّ جَلَسَ فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ إِلَى أَنْ قَالَ : ثُمَّ أَمَرَ ابْنَ عَوْفٍ فَتَجَهَّزَ لِسَرِيَّةٍ بَعَثَهُ عَلَيْهَا فَأَصْبَحَ وَقَدِ اعْتَمَّ بِعِمَامَةٍ كَرَابِيسَ سَوْدَاءَ ، فَأَتَاهُ النَّبِيُّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - ثُمَّ نَقَضَهَا فَعَمَّمَهُ ، فَأَرْسَلَ مِنْ خَلْفِهِ أَرْبَعَ أَصَابِعَ أَوْ نَحْوَهَا ثُمَّ قَالَ : " هَكَذَا يَا ابْنَ عَوْفٍ فَاعْتَمَّ فَإِنَّهُ أَعْرَبُ وَأَحْسَنُ " ثُمَّ أَمَرَ بِلَالًا فَدَفَعَ إِلَيْهِ اللِّوَاءَ فَحَمِدَ اللَّهَ وَصَلَّى عَلَى النَّبِيِّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - ثُمَّ قَالَ : " خُذْ يَا ابْنَ عَوْفٍ فَاغْزُوَا جَمِيعًا فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ ، قَاتِلُوا مِنْ كَفَرَ بِاللَّهِ ، وَلَا تَغْدِرُوا وَلَا تُمَثِّلُوا فَهَذَا عَهْدُ اللَّهِ وَسُنَّةُ نَبِيِّهِ فِيكُمْ " .
قُلْتُ : رَوَى ابْنُ مَاجَهْ طَرَفًا مِنْهُ .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْأَوْسَطِ ، وَإِسْنَادُهُ حَسَنٌ .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: I was one of ten people present in the mosque of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him), myself, and Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him). Meanwhile a man from the Ansar came, gave the greeting of peace and then sat down. After this the narrator mentioned the full hadith, further on in which are these words: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) to prepare for a military expedition; the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had appointed him commander of that expedition. The next day he wore a black turban of coarse cloth (karabis) and came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet undid his turban, tied his turban for him himself, and left its end hanging four fingers' length behind, or about that, then said: "O Ibn Awf! Tie your turban like this! This is more in keeping with the way of the Arabs and better." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him), and he handed the banner to him. He praised Allah Almighty and sent blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Ibn Awf! Take it, and fight together in the path of Allah; fight those who disbelieve in Allah. Do not break pledges and do not mutilate. This is the command of Allah and the Sunnah of His Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) concerning you." (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Ibn Majah recorded part of this report.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and its chain is hasan (good).

وَعَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ السَّلَامِ قَالَ : قُلْتُ لِابْنِ عُمَرَ : كَيْفَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - يَعْتَمُّ ؟ قَالَ : كَانَ يُدَوِّرُ كُورَ عِمَامَتِهِ عَلَى رَأْسِهِ ، وَيَغْرِزُهَا مِنْ وَرَائِهِ وَيُرْسِلُهَا بَيْنَ كَتِفَيْهِ .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْأَوْسَطِ وَرِجَالُهُ رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ خَلَا أَبَا عَبْدِ السَّلَامِ وَهُوَ ثِقَةٌ .
Abu Abd al-Salam narrates: I asked Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both): "How did the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) tie his turban?" He said: "The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would wind the coils of his turban around his head, then tuck it in at the back and let it hang between his shoulders."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih, except Abu Abd al-Salam, who is thiqah (trustworthy).

وَعَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى أَنَّ جِبْرِيلَ نَزَلَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - وَعَلَيْهِ عِمَامَةٌ سَوْدَاءُ قَدْ أَرْخَى ذَوَائِبَهُ مِنْ وَرَائِهِ .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ وَفِيهِ عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ تَمَّامٍ وَهُوَ ضَعِيفٌ بِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ وَغَيْرِهِ .
Sayyiduna Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Sayyiduna Jibril came down to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), wearing a black turban whose end he had let hang down behind him.
Al-Tabarani recorded it. Its chain contains Ubaydullah bin Tammam, who is da'if (weak) on account of this hadith and others.

وَعَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " عَلَيْكُمْ بِالْعَمَائِمِ فَإِنَّهَا سِيمَا الْمَلَائِكَةِ وَأَرْخُوهَا خَلَفَ ظُهُورِكُمْ " .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَفِيهِ عِيسَى بْنُ يُونُسَ قَالَ الدَّارَقُطْنِيُّ : مَجْهُولٌ . وَذَكَرَ الذَّهَبِيُّ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ فِي تَرْجَمَةِ يَحْيَى بْنِ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ صَالِحٍ الْمِصْرِيِّ شَيْخِ الطَّبَرَانِيِّ ، وَمَعَ ذَلِكَ فَقَدْ وَثَّقَهُ .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Hold fast to wearing turbans, for they are the distinguishing mark of the angels, and let them hang down behind your backs (that is, keep a tail)."
Al-Tabarani recorded it. Its chain contains Isa bin Yunus; Imam al-Daraqutni (may Allah have mercy on him) says: he is majhul (unknown). Al-Dhahabi mentioned this hadith in the biography of Yahya bin Uthman bin Salih al-Misri, the teacher of al-Tabarani, and along with that he declared him trustworthy.

وَعَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ قَالَ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - لَا يُوَلِّي وَالِيًا حَتَّى يُعَمِّمَهُ وَيُرْخِيَ لَهَا [ عَذَبَةً ] مِنَ الْجَانِبِ الْأَيْمَنِ نَحْوَ الْأُذُنِ .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ وَفِيهِ جَمِيعُ بْنُ ثَوْبٍ وَهُوَ مَتْرُوكٌ .
قُلْتُ : وَقَدْ تَقَدَّمَ حَدِيثُ أَبِي الدَّرْدَاءِ : " إِنَّ اللَّهَ وَمَلَائِكَتَهُ يُصَلُّونَ عَلَى أَصْحَابِ الْعَمَائِمِ يَوْمَ الْجُمْعَةَ " فِي الْجُمْعَةِ .
Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would not appoint anyone as governor over any matter until he had tied a turban on him and let its end hang down on the right side towards the ear.
Al-Tabarani recorded it. Its chain contains Jumay' bin Thawb, who is matruk (abandoned). (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: The hadith of Sayyiduna Abu al-Darda' (may Allah be pleased with him) has already passed: "Indeed, Allah Almighty and His angels send blessings upon those who wear turbans on Friday"; it has passed in the Book of Friday.
