Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I was with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when a Bedouin came to him and said: O Prophet of Allah, I have a brother who is suffering. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "What is his ailment?" He said: He has madness (or epilepsy). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Bring him to me!" Sayyiduna Ubayy (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: He sat him down in front of him, and then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed ruqyah on him. He recited Surah al-Fatihah, recited the first four verses of Surah al-Baqarah, and recited this verse: "And your God is One God"; and Ayat al-Kursi and the last three verses of Surah al-Baqarah; and he recited this verse of Surah Al Imran: "Allah bears witness that there is no god but He"; he recited this verse of Surah al-A'raf: "Indeed, your Lord is Allah"; he recited these last verses of Surah al-Mu'minun: "So exalted is Allah, the King, the Truth"; he recited this verse of Surah al-Jinn: "And exalted is the majesty of our Lord"; he recited the first ten verses of Surah al-Saffat, the first three verses of Surah al-Hashr, Surah al-Ikhlas and the Mu'awwidhatayn (he recited all these verses and performed ruqyah on him). Then that man stood up as though he had never had any complaint.
Abdullah bin Ahmad recorded it. Its chain contains a narrator, Abu Janab, and he is da'if (weak) because he committed tadlis (concealing defects in the chain) a great deal; Ibn Hibban declared him thiqah (trustworthy). The remaining narrators of this report are the narrators of the Sahih.

Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Layla reports, through a man, this statement of his father: A man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: My brother is suffering. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "What is your brother's ailment?" He said: He has madness (or epilepsy). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Send him to me!" When that man came to him, he sat down in front of him. The narrator says: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited over him Surah al-Fatihah, the first four verses of Surah al-Baqarah, and this one verse from its middle: "And your God is One God; there is no god but He, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth", until he completed that verse. (The narrator says:) After this the narrator mentioned the hadith as before; however, in this narration he mentioned ten verses of Surah al-Saff and did not say "its first ten verses", and he said: "He recited the last three verses of Surah al-Hashr."
Abu Ya'la recorded it. Its chain contains a narrator who is not named, and a narrator, Abu Janab, who is da'if (weak) because of his tadlis (concealing defects in the chain); Ibn Hibban declared him thiqah (trustworthy).

Hadith Takhrij «
Hanash al-San'ani reports from Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he recited into the ear of an afflicted man who had lost consciousness, and he regained consciousness. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him: "What did you recite into his ear?" He said: I recited: "Did you think that We created you without purpose?", and I recited it to the end of the surah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If a man with certain faith were to recite it over a mountain, it would move from its place."
Abu Ya'la recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Ibn Lahi'ah, in whom there is weakness, and his hadith is hasan (good); the remaining narrators of this report are the narrators of the Sahih. In the chapter on the signs of Prophethood, hadiths will come which mention that, without any ruqyah, relief from madness was granted through his (peace and blessings be upon him) blessing.
